Online Classes Advantages and Disadvantages

ONLINE LEARNING - The Advantages and Disadvantages of Online School in the Philippines

Students nowadays continues to adapt with the flexible learning system. Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, students and teachers are required to stay at home. Classes that started in the middle of the year August 2019 have been greatly affected since the outbreak.

Private schools have formed an online platforms for their students to continue. Most schools use Google classroom since it is easier to use and students can easily access to it. In the Philippines, there is a bit of a problem with online school.

A lot of Filipino students do not have the access to quality internet connection. They could access with a $1 load for one day internet connection using their mobile phone. Another problem is that, their parents are struggling to find jobs since a lot of them are under 'No Work, No Pay' policy.

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte said that no classes should resume unless the vaccine is already available. The Department of Education (DepEd) and the Commission of Higher Eductation (CHED) are still pursuing the classes but requires to use online platforms. Filipino students are sharing this hashtag #NoStudentLeftBehind for those students who could not participate in online school - especially those who do not have an access to internet connection.

Several areas like in the mountainous areas have the poorest internet connection. Even in the cities nowadays suffers in poor internet connection. In the social media platforms - people are spreading the awareness like for a 50 pesos ($1), one could buy a kilo of rice for the whole family instead of purchasing the one day internet connection.

There are still students who want to pursue their education amidst the pandemic. Even those students who are greatly affected by the outbreak. DepEd are already on the move and has trained public teachers, getting ready for online learning. For the public schools, the teachers will provide printed modules either per week or per month, depending on the available resources. These modules will serve as a guide for the students who want to continue their education.

Teachers are also affected but they are trying their best in order to cater those students who really wants to continue their studies. Public teachers have undergone trainings for them to be prepared for the school year 2020-2021.

Advantages
- Students can still learn while at home
- Students will no longer go out - for safety purposes
- Lesser crowd in the streets
- Teachers can still continue to work
- Students and Teachers will stay more at home with their families

Disadvantages
- No access to internet connection - no online class
- For college, no tuition fee - no online class (some may have preferred to have deferred payment for students who are struggling to pay for the tuition fee)
- No Computer/Laptop/Phones - no online class
- Poor internet connection - no online class

This might not be easy but as time goes on, it will surely be. There are also several online pages that are helping both students and teachers to cope up in this pandemic - Filipinos are one big family, after all. Some gave free stuffs like cellphones, computers, printers, and laptops to the deserving students and teachers. Some sell their stuffs for online class at a cheaper price. Even the pages of some barangays are posting details about the school stuff. Filipinos doing their very best to help each other.
